Certified Tutor

I recently graduated from Ithaca College with a degree in biochemistry. After graduation, I decided to take a year off while I apply to medical schools. I have tutored Chemistry, Biology and Math since freshman year in College. When I first started tutoring, my goal was to ensure that my student got the information down and could teach it back to me. However, what stood out for me as time passed on was the satisfaction I got when my students not only understood the material, but enjoyed learning the material. My aim as a tutor now is not just to help a student through a difficult course, but also help them appreciate the process of learning. Even though the student might never need the course for anything else in the future, I believe that knowledge never wasted. If they can pay attention to their process of learning and how it helped them do better in one course, they are better equipped to utilize this new skill in a different subject. This is something I have learned from my experience as a science major who took classes outside my major. Often, what I learned about my learning style in acting was also useful to me when I had to study for a biochemsitry test. Although I enjoy tutoring many subjects, I enjoy physics and chemistry the most. Besides tutoring, I enjoy reading reading books and poetry.
