First and foremost, I believe it is the responsibility of teachers/tutors to encourage a love of learning in each and every one of their students. Every student should have the opportunity to learn and succeed. Teachers help lead students on this path to success through their various teaching methods. I believe these methods should incorporate students' unique backgrounds, cultures, experiences, and learning styles. There should be no single approach to teaching, as each student you encounter is different, and each experience adds something new to the mix. When I teach, I always try to make a connection to each of my students through their past experiences, culture, and background. I use the knowledge I obtain from them to help structure my teaching in a way in which my students have an interest in what they are being taught. I also incorporate into my methods a number of different learning styles, so that each student can feel like they can learn the material in their own way.
I have learned that one of my best assets as a teacher is my rapport with studentsI feel as though given enough time, I can make a connection with any and all students, and can truly change their lives. Through my teaching experiences, I have realized that it takes more than a single individual to make a difference in the lives of students. Therefore, I have learned the value of being a team player and the importance of communicating with colleagues, parents, administrators, and the students themselves, so that I can provide the best education possible for my students. Overall, I hope to instill a love of learning and a desire for knowledge within each of my students, giving them the determination to be lifelong learners.
