Maitri: Birmingham tutor
Certified Tutor
I am a recent graduate of the University of Arizona where I earned a B.A. studying Creative Writing, Spanish Language and Literature, and English Literature. From 2010 to 2012 I worked at the University of Arizona Think Tank, a free tutoring service provided to UA students that is staffed by undergraduates. Tutoring at the Writing Center, I worked with many diverse students ranging from non-native speakers of English to graduate students applying for research grants. Throughout my years at the Think Tank, I became a CRLA Level 3 Certified Tutor, mentoring younger tutors and leading training sessions.
During the spring of 2011, I studied abroad in Alcala de Henares, Spain, a city in the municipality of Madrid. There I lived with a host family and was fully enriched by the beautifully rich Spanish culture; nothing could have been better for my acquisition skills than such a true immersion experience, and I advocate such programs for students who wish to learn foreign languages.
My true passion is writing - I recently completed a poetry thesis for the Honors College of the University of Arizona. I believe English literature, language, and grammar skills are immensely important, and I hope to bring my knowledge of tutoring in those areas to you students at Varsity!

What is your teaching philosophy?
Every student learns differently. I believe in trial and error with students, and pursuing an approach that is tailored to their unique needs and learning style that might not be met in the classroom.
