I have a positive and patient way of getting through to students. Science was my favorite subject matter in college and I like to break down difficult information into terms that are easier to understand and follow. For example, I like to break down scientific terms by their roots. In doing so, my students not only remember what the terms mean for that class but can also apply that knowledge in future class work. I also believe in using reinforcement techniques such as repetition, writing, and regular revision/quizzing of the subject matter so that the information not only stays fresh, but is also easier to build on that information further.

As I graduated with an honors bachelor's degree in Biology, I started working at my university as an academic tutor. Based on the performance of my students, I was further promoted to the "Lead Science Tutor" position where I could share teaching techniques and train incoming tutors as well. I was the president of Society for Neuroscience and organized many community education outreach events. As an academic tutor, I am able to use my patient, motivating, and goal-oriented nature to help my students not only do well in one course, but also improve their study habits altogether and achieve long term goals.
