The student worked on his algebra homework. This consisted of graphing and table or chart comparisons. He did very well and is self motivated. We spent a brief time on biology, plant and animal cells. Lastly, we reviewed his literacy novel "Speak". He was given a graphic organizer for his writing assignments; specifically "How to Paragraph". I have a copy of his schedule and teacher names. He was a pleasure to work with.

Tonight we looked at using the quadratic formula and discriminant in order to determine the number of solutions to an equation and solve for them. The student expressed to me that she feels highly confident with her grasp on concepts, but asked that we work more on graphing and determining a vertex and axis of symmetry using the calculator. We also spent time revisiting various methods of solving equations that include simple algebraic isolation of X through steps, through identifying X-intercepts (zeros), as well as the use of the quadratic formula. She has maintained a high A and continues to bring home high As on homework and quizzes. Her confidence level and self-motivation continue to dominate though her approach to her work.

The student has been apparently doing well. He reports that he got an A on his trig test. He has now moved on to statistics. We worked through a quiz review today over different types of sampling techniques, whether they are biased, and how to calculate the margin of error. The review also covered experimental design. He seemed well versed in all of these topics.

Today's tutoring session was on constructing histograms. The student's class is currently focused on statistics. We went over concepts such as finding the mean, mode, and median of a set of data. I explained how to construct a frequency table and how to use that information to construct a histogram. We also made a dot plot with a given set of data points.

The student had a test returned that if she corrected it, she would receive points back. She did much better and even her teacher wrote "much improved" on this test. We went over the questions she missed including plotting parabolic equations (especially issues with negative number coordinates), and the difference between linear, quadratic, and exponential equations. We also reviewed solving exponential equations.

We reviewed reading homework: identifying subjects, verbs, and adverbs. We also worked on state capitols.
