Tutoring review by Michael in Cicero, IL
We again worked with the trigonometric functions. We reviewed the concept of a radian and introduced the concept of arc length and angular velocity in relation to linear velocity. We began with 45 minutes of reviewing the equations in the chapter and key concepts about degree and radian conversion and equations using Theta. We spent the remaining 45 minutes on any questions the student had left from his weekly problem set. We then used right triangles, the Pythagorean theorem, and the six trig functions to determine arc lengths or angular velocity.

Today, I continued to work on unit rates with the student. Her homework was a bit harder than yesterday's, as it included higher order thinking problems this time. The equivalent fractions involved higher numbers also. However, she had a really good attitude towards it and did great. We also worked on multiplication flashcards, and then went back and reviewed the problems that she didn't know the first round.

Tutoring review by Joel in Cicero, IL
The student wanted a lesson on solving force problems, so I showed her my 6-step method. I created some practice problems for her to learn the technique on, and she had it mastered after about 50 minutes. Then we worked until the end on a very difficult problem having to do with gravity on a ramp and a dangling weight and tension. It was very complex, and we had just arrived at the equations by the end of the lesson.

Today was a great session with the student. We made a lot of progress on getting him ready for his trig test. We covered the basics all the way up to, but not including, law of sines and cosines. He has a great attitude and is fun to work with. The student has a strong grasp of common sense, and I'm able to use that to help him better and quicker understand the material.
