Tutoring review by Lora in Paramount, CA
The student worked on a science take home quiz, which was a review of: physical vs. chemical changes, mixtures, and calculating density. He seemed fairly confident in these questions. He said he would do 2 pages of both his math and science packet every day, so he doesn't leave everything until last minute.

The student and I began our session with a new conversation question. We discussed goals, both short term as well as long term. We talked about the importance of having goals. We then worked on prepositions: verbs followed by prepositions and adjectives followed by prepositions. The last part of our session was focused on reading comprehension. I find this helps him with vocabulary. He read a passage and answered the questions which followed.

Today, the student and I discussed a leadership discussion post that she was able to successfully complete yesterday - once again, she did a wonderful job in being proactive and adding good insight into her course discussion. We also focused on a discussion question related to science and the 1918 influenza pandemic - she included excellent comments related to her perspective of the flu, prevention, government intervention, and personal responsibility. She also completed an assessment after we reviewed a video/transcripts of this incident as well. Finally, we worked on several additional areas of the leadership paper that is due later this year.

Tutoring review by Aaron in Paramount, CA
We continued to work on logarithmic and exponential function manipulation. In particular, solving several problems written by me, going back over other challenging homework problems to test completeness of understanding, and discussion of points of confusion. The student has some issues remembering all of the rules simultaneously and looking ahead in formula manipulation. He is improving rapidly in the time it takes him to solve and see a path to solve problems. I have left him with more combined exponential/logarithmic problems to solve as practice. My goal moving forward is to provide quality practice and instruction for him so he can continue to build a strong basis in pre-calc.

Tutoring review by Nimia in Paramount, CA
Today's session began with checking the homework I had sent the student, which covered evaluating algebraic expressions, solving one-step algebraic equations, and writing algebraic expressions. Afterwards we reviewed his homework which was an entirely new unit. It introduced graphing algebraic expressions and identifying the dependent and independent variables. He has a better understanding of the process of solving algebraic problems. If he practices writing each step out he will avoid a lot of his inaccuracies.
