The student and I worked on greater than, less than, handwriting, and cause and effect. He did really well with all that was listed. I got a very good understanding of were I want to go with him with math, writing, and reading. The parent was going to get me his DRA level. We will also start writing.

The student and I did a math worksheet over charting a math problem. We played a card game with addition, subtraction, and multiplication. We went over her multiplication facts from 1-13. I showed the student how to multiply two digit by two digit. The student could do the problem if the numbers are smaller then 5. We went back over two digit by one digit.

Today was my first session with the student. She told me a bit about what she remembered from the English I test. It was a while ago so she didn't quite remember all the details. Today, she and I talked about some writing strategies, discussed some general ideas pertaining to her essay, and then worked through a persuasive essay prompt that was in her test prep book. Our next session will focus on multiple choice revising/editing questions and a bit of grammar.

During this session we covered a brief Algebra review to prepare him for his pre-calculus class. We also went over the syllabus for each of his classes to organize his time better as well as to organize tutoring sessions according to his exams.

The student completed a practice test for his homework, so we went over the problems that he missed. He did excellent on the mathematics portion and has no trouble there. He missed some questions on the reading section. The main sections we need to work on are verbal and essay. I will encourage the student to practice using prefixes, roots, and suffixes in determining the definition of a word. He also needs to improve his effort on his essay.

The student has a quiz tomorrow so we met one day earlier than usual to prepare. The quiz is over graphing rational functions so we did a lot of that. We found zeros, asymptotes and holes then used continuity to graph the solution.
