This session, the student had a worksheet dealing with more complicated two-step equations, namely ones that begin as fractions on both sides of the equals sign, requiring cross multiplication and a little bit more algebraic manipulation to get to the answer. Thankfully this added only one step to something she already has a solid basis in, and once I showed her that first step in an example and stressed that she should do the same thing when faced with any similar problem, she blew through the problems correctly with no problem and no input from me. Afterwards, I guided her in understanding the problem statement of a geometry project involving transformations.

The student and I studied for her test that she had the next day. She was working on adding and subtracting. She was having difficulties noticing when she had to do subtraction and also had trouble with making a fraction that was improper into a proper fraction. She continues to work on her multiplication she's doing better on her multiples of two. We move to our threes. I left her with her notecards to help her study her twos so that next time we can take a multiplication test over our twos and threes.

The student's class is spending this week reviewing Chapter 3 (derivatives) before her test which will span Thursday and Friday. She got a 10/10 on her quiz last week and was feeling confident. We went over material from the beginning of the chapter since we had spent the last week doing the end of the chapter. She was confident on the definition of a derivative formula and remembered some of her knowledge on limits. She did remember tangent lines, and the rules for where a function is not differentiable. We went over what the definition of a derivative is graphically, and this helped her understanding. We did a few problems from her review and she did well. I am confident she will do well on this test.

The student and I started the session by answering the questions of the day, and he answered them all correctly. We continued the session with reading comprehension, which is his greatest challenge. We talked about strategies for the reading section and how to be successful despite feeling low on energy or discouraged. We finished the session by working on analogies and continuing to improve his vocabulary through exposure.
