Recent Blue Springs Tutoring Session Notes
Today we started the review for the student's final on the 18th. We went through his notes for the semester. At each major concept, I had him explain it to me and then we'd review practice problems. Overall he understands the material well. We are going to do more comprehensive practice problems in our next sessions. By that time he should have a review sheet from his teacher, so he'll know what topics are being covered on his exam.

We practiced division facts. Since the student indicated they were doing long division and would be writing with decimal answers, we practiced a long division sheet and she wrote the remainder as a decimal. We did more + - x and / with decimals where there was a mix of decimal positions. I also presented the problems horizontally to ensure she could set them up vertically to work. Additional and subtraction were handled well. Multiplication and division need a bit more practice to ensure proper decimal placement. I had her practice fractions, decimals and multiplication facts using various online games (about 15 minutes total). We started a review of place value and then reinforced that skill with another online game.
She was very cooperative and has the right mechanics for what we've worked on.

We went over project 5 on the student's complex lab related to TCP/IP simulation. We then discussed the process to approach a solution to the project. We will pick this up again in the next session from where we left off. He was motivated and eager to learn the topic

We prepared for an upcoming exam, covering: the chain rule, derivatives using logarithms, implicit differentiation, and derivatives of inverse trig functions. We focused particularly on word problems and some of the more complicated problems as the student seemed comfortable with the simple applications of these rules already.

Both sessions were spent going through homework assignments. One assignment covered old material, while the other circular motion. The student had difficulty with circular motion and we will need to go over it more in preparation for her test. She also needs to review old material to keep on top of things.

The student was able to complete most of her math problems with minimum support. We reviewed slope and scatter plots. Then she completed 2 assignment from her Social Media class and she was able to take the quiz with a result of 100%.
