Tutoring review by Jonathan in Eden Prairie, MN
The student and I began to review material from previous sections. The material covered included the multiplication, division, addition, and subtraction of rational expressions. We then covered the most recent section he had learned about in class of complex fractions. In order to help him more clearly understand this idea, I related complex fractions as fractions being divided by others. This visualization helped him clean up the convoluted mess.

During this lesson, the student and I worked on division and prime numbers. She tried some of the practice problems at home, but said that she had difficulty with them, so we went through them together. They involved division using the subtraction method, as well as long division. We practiced, in particular, the mechanics of long division. She is becoming able to solve long division problems on her own. We then went into a discussion of prime numbers, explaining that composite numbers can be broken down into primes, and learning some of the basic primes. Before the lesson, I sent her book chapters on prime numbers and fractions. She said that she'll practice these (as well as the chapters on division). At our next lesson, she and I will keep on working on prime numbers, as well as move into fractions. These are all essential mathematical topics that she'll need to study radiology at her community college.

Tutoring review by Alexandria in Eden Prairie, MN
This evening I helped the student complete a French worksheet that dealt with parts of the body and adjectives. The goal of the assignment was to create sentences about oneself and others, using predesigned sentences (my/her name is, my/his hair is blond/brown, etc.). She seemed hesitant to speak at first, due to her lack of experience with French. To combat that, I had her repeat phrases and praised what she did well. By the end of the session, she seemed to be more confident in her ability to talk about herself in French, in particular. For the last 10 minutes of the session, I tried to do a fun activity to reinforce the idea of learning body parts; we sang and danced through "Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes" in French a few times, which she seemed to have fun with! Finally, for the last 3-4 minutes, I showed her pictures of major sights in Paris (the Eiffel Tower, the Arc de Triomphe, the Louvre, etc.); it was something mentioned at the end of her worksheet, and the sights always amazing to see!

Tutoring review by Matthew in Eden Prairie, MN
I got to know the student and assessed his Spanish abilities. I went through a series of questions with him to get to know his likes and dislikes and in addition to determining where he thought his proficiency was. We then did a series of activities that were designed to simulate portions of the actual exam in order to aid in the assessment of his abilities. I saw that there is a lot of ground which needs to be covered but that he is a hard worker. He struggles greatly with aural comprehension. When I speak to him in Spanish he struggles to understand what is being said. We will work on this in our sessions.
