Today the student and I discussed cell growth and cell division. We specifically discussed the purpose and structure of the chromosome, as well as chromatin, nucleosomes, and chromatids. We discussed mitosis and meiosis, and the different steps of each as well as what occurs in each phase: prophase, metaphase, anaphase, and telophase. Overall the session was successful and she understood the material.

We reviewed: the definition of displacement, velocity and speed; the definition of acceleration; 1D kinematics equations; functions, domains, ranges; and, interval, set and algebraic notation for domains and ranges.

Student 1: He and I reviewed adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing decimals. He was able to teach these skills back to me, which is great! When working on dividing decimals, we also talked about repeating decimals, which he found interesting.
Student 2: He and I worked on his words for his spelling quiz. He aced them all on the first try! We then read a few pages out loud from a book he and his dad have been reading. He is showing tremendous improvement with his reading skills. Although it is still slow for him to read out loud, he is correcting himself on mispronounced words and no longer skipping small words, such as "the" or "and." His spelling has also greatly improved!

Today, we reviewed some topics for the student's test, including parallel lines, the distance formula, medians and altitudes, and proofs (mainly dealing with triangles). We went over triangle proofs a little bit more in depth because they are a new topic. I advised him to review the different rules so he won't have as much trouble keeping track of them.

The student had a social studies unit test Wednesday, so we went through some of his study materials. He has been learning about the Age of Exploration and colonialism.

The student worked on a review for the midterm in her online school course. Most of the material was from early in the semester, so we spent a necessary amount of time to make sure she was comfortable with the earlier concepts that included integer and rational addition/ subtraction and multiplication/ division.
