Tutoring review by Ivan in San Marino, CA
The student and I caught up after his winter break, and we dove back into integrals for his AP Calculus class. We went over area between two curves. I explained to the student the idea behind the method to setting up these integrals, and he seemed to understand it pretty well. We covered a few examples that he followed closely and comfortably, and he didn't seem to have many problems or questions. He has a test tomorrow and feels comfortable, but needed some reassurance on some details. Good luck to him tomorrow!

Tutoring review by Bethany in San Marino, CA
We went over the problems they missed from their math test. Then we worked on word problems and problem solving strategies. Student 1 did very well working on her own to solve problems, but Student 2 needed support. By the end of the session, Student 2 was able to see connections between similar problems and how to solve them.

Tutoring review by Rebecca in San Marino, CA
Today, we spent the first hour going over the 45 vocab words that the student has been learning. She knew just over 1/2 of them very well and we worked on the others. Some of them, she was forgetting and some of them we needed to discuss more so she could have a better understanding of what the new words meant. We did not add any new words today so that she can learn the 45 she has very well. The second hour of the session we worked on practice GRE math questions in the format and the type that will be on the test from the book. We got through the "easy" section and started on the "medium" section. These have proved difficult--she has been able to answer some independently but needs help on others. Right now we are working on how to solve the "puzzle" of the problem since she now has the actual math skills to answer many of them. That part is difficult. We have 3 more days left and we are really going to focus on being able to solve the math problems.

We continued reviewing for the student's upcoming test. We focused on identifying and graphing transformations of graphs. We also focused on graphically determining whether a function has an inverse function. The student is continuing to improve in her ability to work through the problems.

The student and I did a pre-review of all of the topics in his physics test thus far. We surveyed each of the concepts in his course and did a couple of problems here or there where a concept was not immediately understood.
