Recent Allentown Tutoring Session Notes
We covered the three methods of finding zeros for quadratic equations: factoring, the discriminant, and completing the square. Completing the square was the most foreign method, but I believe one or two examples, the student was feeling much more confident. We also covered imaginary numbers and their properties, and we concluded with maximizing area. Overall, I believe she is progressing very well. She seems to understand more deeply and is more confident with her work.

The student had finished her homework with 100% accuracy. Today she worked on nonfiction text and answered questions accordingly.

We worked through more word problems using implicit differentiation to solve for real world variables. She seems to have gotten over the initial intimidation of word problems with new material and now understands how to approach the problems.

The student and I went over his test from last week. We went over direct and indirect objects pronouns, the preterito tense, and question words. He seemed to be even more confident than last week. I suggested that he look up online games to study prepositions and preterito words.

We worked on simplifying radical expression and simplifying radical expressions with imaginary numbers in it. The student was motivated to ask me questions and to learn the material. He had pretty good idea of how to solve radical expressions. He had few questions from here and there. I gave him few extra questions that I made up on the spot.

We did some final review of the chain rule and the product rule to get ready for upcoming tests and quizzes (which went very well!). She is fully in control of the concepts, so as long as she is awake and focused, she does very well. I am not worried in the slightest.
