Tutoring review by Jason in North Dakota
The student did well today. We focused on conjugated verbs in the present, past, and imperfect tenses. She did 6 of them on her own, and then we reviewed them. Lastly, we did a few practice tests to ensure her understanding and ability to discern well in preparation for Thursday's test.

Student 1 and I went over a reading passage and reviewed comprehension questions and writing responses to comprehension questions. He needs to work on rephrasing question when responding. Student 2 read chapter 2 of their Chapter book and responded to a Fiction prompt in writing. She will work on writing spelling words and definitions on index cards for review and practice. Student 3 practiced spelling words orally and in writing and practiced reading for fluency.

Today, we primarily talked about rate laws from chemistry. I explained the difference between zero, first, and second order rate laws. Overall, I think the student's conceptual understanding and reasoning behind rate laws improved.

The first student and I finished "George's Marvelous Medicine." The first thing he said was, ""What are we reading next?" I love his enthusiasm about reading. We practiced recognizing the number words. He know eight out of ten, missing five and six. He read (with much confidence!) our warm up story, "Come In," and then we read "The Old Truck" as our new book. The second student was pretty excited about finding words in "Animalia" that started with v, w, x, and y. He read "Frog Sat" and independently read words like: ran, can, top, bed. We tried identifying the number words, and he writes his numbers backwards but was able to correctly identify the words 6 and 7. We will continue to work on this next session.

Tutoring review by Chase in North Dakota
The student and I made some progress working through his classwork. Today, we reviewed the concepts of the quadratic formula, translating between rational exponents and radical expressions, arithmetic with complex numbers, simplifying rational expressions, and applications of the quadratic formula. Regarding this latter topic, I was pleased to hear the student explain his solution to a word problem. This indicates that the subject matter is becoming more intuitive for him and that the practice is sinking in. He also solved a complicated word problem without my assistance. He has made substantial progress since the first session.

The student had taken his test and done fairly well for his first try. There is room for improvement. We reviewed his math section and it was clear that he had a difficult time applying slope and intercept form rules when necessary. We practiced application until he understood, and then we moved on to reading comprehension. We discussed active reading. Overall, we had a great class.
