Recent Cedar Lake Tutoring Session Notes
The student was working on problems of simple harmonic motion and oscillation, dealing with various aspects of masses on springs (and systems that act like them). We dealt with period, frequency (linear and angular), and amplitude, and worked with the conservation of energy. There was a lot involved, but the student seemed to get a handle on a good portion of it. We will meet again tomorrow to continue the problems.

The student and I reviewed the concepts that we discussed last time, including scientific notation, exponent properties, solving one step equations, and solving two step equations. He did really well overall, but during the exponent properties review it was clear that he wasn't sure how to subtract negative integers, so we focused some time towards practicing this skill so that he could apply it successfully when using exponent rules with negative exponents. He may still need some practice but is in much better shape than when we started. Overall, it was a really good session.

We retraced some of the topics from last week (secants, tangents) and continued working on properties of circles intersected by lines such as inscribed angle measures, relationships between chords, etc.

We covered a series of increasingly challenging problems focusing on solving simple equations. We worked on distribution and the combination of like terms in order to solve these problems. We focused on understanding the concept of getting like terms together and having all like terms on the same side.

The student and I had a long session today. We started with algebra, and he really showed improvement! We also completed a practice essay and a reading diagnostic. He will work on verbal skills and algebra before our next session. We will split time between algebra and verbal next Tuesday.

We covered vectors, specifically identifying vector functions as varying components of vectors that change with time. The student was glad to have the clarity I was able to provide. We reviewed major concepts and worked several problems from each section we covered.
