Tutoring review by Matthew in Syracuse University, NY
Today the student and I covered solving quadratic equations by factoring and graphing parabolas. I bought a dry erase board, and it helped him out. He remembered what the axis of symmetry was from last lesson and got very comfortable solving quadratic equations by factoring. He even explained the process to his mother correctly and did an example. I am so excited about his progress and him remembering what we worked on last week. I left him three problems to practice on, and we will review them next Saturday.

Review for Wednesday's test on fundamentals of trigonometry. The student knows the unit circle quite solidly. He understands all the fundamental concepts, but sometimes gets lost in the details. However, once he accepts that he has to do the work, his accuracy starts improving.

Tutoring review by Oak in Syracuse University, NY
We covered problem solving skills today. The student took down notes on short division and multiplication with power of 10--mental math strategies. We also discussed how to read and question our answers for reasonableness and checking for appropriate units. The student found that working with lateral equations was somewhat challenging, but it seemed that he enjoyed them. We made some connections between distributive properties and factoring of polynomials. He is preparing for the test next week. He will need to slow down to organize his ideas on paper. When he makes a habit of writing down each step, he should be able to earn in the high 90s at ease. Overall, I am very proud of his progress.

Today the student and I reviewed his spelling words for understanding and read a comprehension passage from Journeys. Next we read a story from his books and took a comprehension quiz which he scored 100% on. Then we practiced his multiplication and division facts. We concluded our session with a strategies game online.
