Recent South Park Tutoring Session Notes
The student requested additional help with fractions, since she is beginning a fraction unit in her math class. I created multiplication, subtraction, addition, and division problems for her to practice. I showed the student the bow tie method for solving addition and subtraction with fractions, and we also practiced cancelling and simplifying fractions. The student also requested additional problems with solving for variables with fractions in the problem. The student completed multiple problems with little difficulty; however, she did forget to multiply reciprocals a few times.

Covered problems from the student's upcoming retest. He knows the majority of the material. We discussed test taking strategies as well. Asked him to stop before each problem, and take a breath to clear his mind, and to slow down when doing these problems.

We covered arc lengths and surface area type problems and differentiated the differences between what it mean by dy/dx and dx/dy.

We covered the student-provided rational functions review in preparation for his upcoming algebra II test. The student's attitude about the material improved significantly as he became more comfortable working through practice problems.

The student and I went through her practice test today. She could definitely use more practice. If she can do the homework from those sections (if she hasn't done it already), then I think she'll be okay. We went over the concepts and she seemed to understand them. She remarked that several of the concepts were not as hard as they looked. Good job!

We worked more on hypothesis testing that we started yesterday. We were able to get through three kinds of tests including Z-tests, T-tests, and 1-proportion Z-tests. We followed the five step process shown in the textbook and that fit perfect to the student's preferred method of learning in steps. By the end of the session he had the steps down well and was just trying to keep the little details straight.
