During this session we went over trig identities, ref angles, etc. The student has an upcoming exam. He just needs to memorize the identities and he should be fine. Overall this session went well.

The student did a homework assignment for her Algebra II class. Her teacher assigned several problems that dealt with manipulating polynomials in various settings. The student knew the material very well, evidenced by the quick review we conducted.

After a bit of a break, we reviewed topics in factoring and began working on absolute value inequalities. She is building confidence in herself, and results are starting to come more quickly.

I showed the student how to multiply with decimals, and we practiced addition/multiplication with decimals. We also practiced finding a percentage of something (i.e. a discount or a tip). We also worked on converting between mixed and improper fractions, along with incorporating order of operations into longer problems. She picked up everything I showed her very quickly, so I think we either need to work on a schedule/agenda so that she can move/skip a math grade level or start working on logic/story problems since it is important to be good at those, particularly moving into the advanced subjects. I am going to bring Sudoku for part of our session next week to get her to use the same skills she has in a new way.

Today, we completed the chapter (finally) by covering the major steps in human development and how the fetus changes. We looked at the different trimesters and the amount of change that happens in each. We also looked at some critical areas of development and how they can be influenced by outside factors and decisions made by the expecting mother. We concluded the chapter by looking into different ways biotechnology can assist couples who have difficulties reproducing. Next session, we will do practice problems, online questions, and polish up on all areas.
