Tutoring review by Michele in Rotterdam, NY
I checked the homework I gave the student which she was to read a story and answer questions. She did a good job on the homework as she answered every question correctly. I then had her read two stories and I had her highlight the most important facts of each story to help her remember what she read, and it will help her answer the questions quicker. She then answered the questions correctly. I then had her read a story and she needed to find antonyms for some of the words in the story which there was a box of antonyms that she could choose from. She did a nice job on this as well. I gave her homework to read a story and answer the questions and put the answers in a puzzle. I felt that a reason she needed to go back to the story to answer some of the questions is I needed to help her sound out some words which I believe took her away from her comprehension skills. But I believe in time she will be able to sound the words out and improve her comprehension.

The student is becoming a master of French tenses. We did a test-like activity of all the possibilities, and she did really well. We also discussed various things about travelling and language, and her verbal French is becoming more and more natural.

We covered torque and rotational motion. I also helped the student conceptually understand some of the basic concepts of mechanics relating to Newton's second law of motion. We derived a few formulas and tried to clear up some of the confusion that the student was having with the abstract thinking of physics.

The student needed help a bit with her past tense verb homework, so we went over that. We started all the various types of pronouns and she did well. We carried on a half hour conversation about the wedding and religious customs in India and she is getting more confident about speaking English. She seems to learn better doing independent practice, then correcting together, rather than doing all of our work together.

We continued working with normal distribution, significance testing, and confidence intervals. I continued testing the student on correctly matching scenarios with their respective formula. Once I felt he mastered that concept, I broke down the variables again for each formula and showed him where to find the key numbers to input. We spent the majority of the session distinguishing between performing a z test or a t test. We ended the session going over AP questions and using the formulas properly.

Tutoring review by Kevin in Rotterdam, NY
The student and I met in an appointment prior to his physics final. He did have one algebra question, so we did some examples related to it before moving on to physics review. We worked through several online problem sets related to work, energy, and power. He was good at solving equations once he had set them up, so I worked to make sure he knows when to apply what principle and what all the terms mean. He was very active about asking questions when he wasn't sure and in answering my questions to him. I hope he does well on all of his finals!
