The student's final is Tuesday so we went through her review packet and then had about 20 minutes to look at 2 topics she had questions about.

During this session, geometric and arithmetic series were reviewed for the next day's test by completing a Chapter 11 study guide.

The student has a essay due on the American Revolution Stamp Act. We brainstormed a dialogue a family would have about the topic and discussed how to research information on the internet to make the essay more accurate and detailed. We also edited his Hatchet essay, going through and adding more structure and detail.

Today the student and I worked on chemistry: electron configuration, ionization energy and atomic size.

This week the student and I worked on preparing for her upcoming math quiz, which covered equations. Her progress remains steady.

During this session we reviewed 2 practice reading passages that I had asked the student to complete on his own. He seems to have a tendency to rush through problems, particularly when he isn't doing them in front of someone. For this reason, I highly advise that he complete timed, full-length practice tests in test-like environments to continue practicing the test-taking strategies. I also suggest that he continue completing practice reading passages not timed and focusing on accuracy. This is important for learning to recognize the "traps" within the answer choices, which we have discussed. For the majority of the session, we completed math practice questions. He seems to have a good grasp of the majority of the concepts needed for this section, but again, has a tendency to rush and make simple mistakes.
