Recent Huntington Beach Tutoring Session Notes
First meeting. The student is aiming for a 24 on the ACT and is currently at a 19. He will be taking the test on June 12 which means we only have about four weeks left to prepare. First meeting formed a good basis of what specific areas need to be targeted, specifically math but also science and reading.
For the next session:
The student was assigned a reading section that will be graded and reviewed. Next session will be very math-focused and I will provide a list of necessary equations that need to be memorized before the test date.

The student and I worked on cellular terminology for Biology and basic legal vocabulary for Criminal Justice. We also reviewed some of the notes she has taken in class, and some of the concepts they are studying.

Today the student and I looked at lecture slides that had caused her some confusion. We worked through the sample solubility problems and discussed Ksp conceptually. We then looked at the table of Ksp values for various compounds and calculated molar solubilities for practice. I feel that it went well, and she walked away understanding the concepts much better than before.

The student was reviewing for an upcoming test. She and I worked through the practice test I brought. She was able to convert logs to exponential equations and write equations for exponential functions given two points. We practiced extra word problems involving exponential growth and decay. After a few examples, she had improved her ability to set up and solve the equations.

Worked through dosage calculations involving patients' weight and how much maintenance fluids via IV they would receive. Plus how many mL of a drug to administer based on order amount and supply/concentration, determining if the order is safe to administer and what to do if not, and finally how much total IV fluid volume is to be delivered and how much IV medication would be delivered over the span of several days of a treatment cycle.
