Today we spent the first half on solving rational equations. We looked at cross multiplication method given a proportion and the distribution of the common denominator for all other types. The last part was spent on reviewing simplification of rational expressions for before.

Today, the student is just about finished with her review packet. She focused on the unit over rational functions and trigonometry. For the trigonometry, she did really well. I had to help her through the graphing pieces. However, she seemed to understand and was able to complete others on her own. She did well on adding and subtracting these expressions, too. Finally, she was able to solve rational equations by clearing fractions with little problem.

We worked on direct variation and setting up simple equations. I gave the student sample problems focusing mostly on fractions. I think he understands as long as he takes his time.

The first half of the session, I worked with the student on her spelling words. She wrote sentences for each word. Her writing seems to be improving. The second half, she and I worked on a crossword puzzle that she had for homework.

We worked on a homework packet for quadratic functions. It focused on identifying various parts of a quadratic (vertex, line of symmetry, y-intercept, mirror point, and two other points) from any of the three forms (vertex, standard, factored).
