The student and I reviewed her homework, which was finding slope and graphing linear equations. She did well, understood the concepts, and completed her homework with ease.

Worked with the student on solving advanced algebraic questions including many different mixture problems.

The student had two math problems today, and we discussed them. We worked on translating sentences to equations. We went over manipulating equations and solving for variables in a three variable, three equation system. We also solved a problem involving area and relating dimensions to units.

On Monday, we reviewed the student's homework set, which involved solving inequalities. We extensively discussed the reason the inequality sign changes when dividing by a negative number. After a few examples, the student was able to do the problems on her own. We then went over a quiz she had done weeks ago, which included word problems, problems solving for x, exponents, and slope intercept problems. The student understands the algebraic method of solving these problems, but sometimes she is unsure of how to set up equations to solve for variables in word problems. I told her I would bring some extra word problems for her to practice to our next session, instead of going over ones she has already solved in the past.

In this session, we reviewed a quiz the student recently completed. The quiz covered the graphs of absolute value equations, and we reviewed the questions that he missed. His results showed that he has no issues with understanding the concepts. The problems he missed involved only minor or mechanical errors, and we discussed ways to avoid these in the future (taking his time, showing his work, double-checking his answers, etc.). Next, we reviewed his homework, which involved solving systems of 3 equations. He did very well on this too.
