I was filling in for the student's usual tutor since she is out of town. Without knowing where she left off, the student and I jumped straight into a math section. She ended up having enough time to do a second section, but we required the extra 30 minutes to review the second section.

We did all of practice test 8 in the blue book. I am so happy with the student's progress. He tested into the 690 range. I advised him to finish the last two practice tests as well. I think he is definitely capable of breaking into the 700s.

The student and I discussed her previous ACT and ACT prep. Then, we reviewed the English and math sections of her practice test, focusing on the incorrect responses. With the remaining time, she completed additional problems from the math section of the ACT, and I explained any confusing questions or incorrect responses. For homework, she will be continuing to work on the math problems we started and taking another section of her practice ACT.

The student is doing very well. I had given her tips to improve her reading in the previous session. We retested her reading speed and it went up from 260 wpm to 320 wpm. I gave her a few timed passages and she did well on the science and math sections.

We talked about the student's goals for the test and his past experience with it. We then worked through problems in the Critical Reading, Math, and English to get a sense of what his strengths and weaknesses are.

This session was dedicated to reading. The student and I worked through several passages together and he was given a few to work on independently that we reviewed together. We focused on strategies of answering the question and understanding what the text is inferring, but doesn't plainly state. The strategies we covered were process of elimination, breaking down the meaning of key words, and reviewing the text to search out the answers. He was assigned an hour's worth of reading practice from his personal workbook. We will go over any questions he had from his workbook during our next session and pick back up with math.
