We've had the BEST experience with VT! Our tutor has helped my middle schoolers math grades come up from a D to an A for our 8th grader and from a D to a B for my 6th grader. I'm beyond pleased with how she connected with my boys.

Finance Tutoring review by Elnora in Portsmouth
The student and I were able to successfully work through two concepts/ problems and understood them as well! First, we reviewed the Tukey T-Range method of evaluation, including the values that were used in the calculation (e.g. the MSE "within groups", the "n" or sample size per group, and the q found in the table based upon the degrees of freedom and the level of significance). She also understood how the T-range is used to evaluate if there is a significant difference between any two pairs of means. Next, we worked through a one-way ANOVA problem by hand and obtained a greater understanding of the comparison between the F-statistic and the F-critical. I am forwarding the notes to her by email.

She had me go through the math questions on her mock real estate exam with her. For any question she missed, I showed her how I arrived at the solution.

Finance Tutoring review by Alex in Portsmouth
The student worked extensively on his homework involving financial accounting concepts. The primary focus of the homework was how to manipulate given information and financials to calculate gross profit, earnings before interest and taxes, earnings with interest expense, after tax earnings, depreciation expense, and finally, net income. Other topics covered were increases/decreases in net working capital, current assets and liabilities, earnings per share and dividends per share of a firm. The topic of financial accounting is very difficult for introductory level finance students, and I saw him have some understandable struggles with it today. Although similarly technical in nature than topics such as time value of money or set income securities, it is qualitatively more complex to understand and involves memorizing equations and understanding how to logically apply them to solve for what is being asked in a problem. I encouraged him to specifically read this chapter in the textbook to gain a better understanding of how all the moving parts come together. I also gave him the notes and equations I wrote down as we completed the homework and strongly encourage him to review these before our next meeting.

The student worked through her online test that covered monopolies and perfect competition. She showed that she grasped the content, although there is still a need for continued strengthening in this particular section. She ended up with and 85% in the course, and continues to maintain an A average in the class. She had a very positive attitude toward the material and asked a number of insightful and engaging practical, real-world application questions. All in all it was a positive session and we will be meeting again in April to work on her final together.
