Ready to make magic? With just a few household supplies and the power of science, you’ll work with Physics Girl Dianna Cowern to perform “science tricks”– seemingly impossible ways to make things rise, fall, move, levitate, and more. Learn to dazzle your friends and family while also mastering the scientific concepts that make these tricks work, and seeing how scientists are using these concepts to further technology and solve even bigger problems.

During class, Dianna will demonstrate several science “magic tricks” and impossible challenges, teaching kids how to "wow" their friends and family using science. For those who would like to practice right along with Dianna during class, here are the household materials to have handy:

Paperclip Drop
A drinking glass, water, a paperclip, and dish soap

Coin Balance
A drinking glass, water, a coin, and a plastic card (the thickness of a credit card)

Fork Balance
A drinking glass, two forks, and either a match or a Q-tip

Ping Pong Funnel
A ping pong ball and a funnel (with the spout narrower than the ball)

Vortex Cannon
A plastic or paper cup, scissors, a balloon, and a rubber band

It’s not necessary to have supplies on hand to enjoy the class, so whether you have everything on this list, enough for one or two activities, or you’re just ready to watch, learn, and try it out on your own another day, you’ll have a blast learning to make science magic.
