We tweaked a bit of the student's college essay, then wrote her essay for another school. Finally, we brainstormed and wrote most of her essay for yet another school.

I worked with the student on his three college essays. We talked about what ideas he has on writing the essays, how to structure the essays, and what the prompts mean. I helped him realize he has amazing stories to tell for his college essays!

We finished his final essay. He is done with his MBA essays now, and hopefully will see positive results!

Fantastic job today! I loved to see the way you pulled together your two essays to something that's really phenomenal - unique, playful and thoughtful. As we talked about, it's important to keep in mind the logic of these essays. We saw this in pulling together your culture essay, in thinking about why bringing up certain points leads a reader to think we're going in a certain direction, and in your university essay and bringing the answer of the question up earlier. Fantastic job, as per usual.

The student and I spent today reviewing all of his short essay questions for his college application, as well as his Common App essay, since all are due for early admission that closes this Thursday. I am happy to see that he worked on the essays on his own before bringing them to me today, as we were able to focus on big gains like rhythm, flow, word choice, and the overarching points needing to be made in the intro, body paragraphs, and conclusion. We spent the majority of our time working on the supplementary essays for, which asked about his reasons for wanting to attend the school, what he wanted to do there, and what his "personal motto" is. By fleshing out the first two and finding where they overlapped we were able to focus on what would make most sense for his personal motto-- a sentence or two that added up to less than 25 words. We spent a brief amount of remaining time in the session to look at the bigger Common App essay, which is in good shape but remains very general and nebulous in its conclusion. He and I will work on this paragraph tomorrow to better integrate it into the overall essay and also make it "show" in specifics rather than "tell" in generalities.

We discussed his interests and accomplishments so I can better guide him through his application essays. He will begin drafting his common app essay.
