The student and I reviewed the chapter on graphing and slope. He practice identifying functions and stating their domains and ranges. He practice writing equations in standard form, slope-intercept form, and point-slope form. The student has a great understanding of functions and slope. He was able to complete homework and practice problems with little trouble.

He is a very bright student and is able to understand complex concepts quite quickly. Today, we went over factoring binomial and trinomial equations. After giving the student some guidance on how to best complete these type of problems, he was able to correctly answer them with relative ease.

Today we went over adding, subtracting, and multiplying polynomial expressions. He had no problems adding or subtracting polynomials. He had not learned how to multiply polynomials yet, but after we worked through one together he was able to solve several on his own. He didn't struggle with the material we went over today.

During our session, the student and I discussed logarithms and their properties. We then discussed the standard form equations for parabolas and completing the square. We went over how to find the standard form, focus, vertex, axis of symmetry and latus rectum.

Yesterday I tutored the student in math. She has a test today and her dad wanted me to meet with her to help her prepare for the test. We worked for an hour and a half on factoring, simplifying radicals and working with polynomials.

The student's math placement test is coming up in the next couple weeks, so his mother requested I work specifically to prepare her for this test. I helped him with different operations for numbers written in scientific notation, finding the perimeter and area of various shapes and trigonometry (special triangles, sin, cos, tan, arcsin, arccos, arctan). We discussed how to approach different problems and when to utilize different methods of solving.
