The student and I went over her homework over transformations. We went over the rules for when to shift graph to the left, to the right, up, and down. We did some examples on her homework. I guided her with some of the problems on her test corrections. I had her work through the questions so that she could get a better grasp on each of them and really eliminate minor errors. She has an upcoming test on Tuesday on transformations and functions. We agreed it would be best to meet up on Sunday to touch base.

We practiced the student's review and notes for simplifying expressions and setting up simple equations. He seemed to understand these concepts fairly well by the end of the evening. His planner was full today even though he admitted he sometimes only writes in it at the end of the day. I encouraged him to date each of his papers for future quiz and test prep. Also, he should be more detailed with his planner to know when about upcoming quizzes and tests.

We started and ended with quiz review problems (operations with positive and negative integers, decimals, and fractions, including adding and subtracting matrices). We also worked on exercises in her algebra book. These included the use of the distributive property. I showed her how to multiply and divide by ten simply by moving the decimal point. We previewed the associative and commutative properties, which are the next topics coming up in her class. With the last few minutes we returned to finish the quiz review exercises.

The problems we worked on today were on simplifying some algebraic expressions involving powers and square root. We first reviewed prime numbers, which are used extensively in the simplifications. I then gave him the algorithm on how such simplifications can be performed, and worked on two of his problems and one problem that I designed. I also provided some tricks that he could apply to save time.

Today we prepared the student for his upcoming test by practicing multi-step equations, absolute value equations/inequalities, expression translations, and word problems. Except for some minor errors, he showed remarkable proficiency on each topic, and his confidence was greatly improved over our first meeting. We also discussed divisibility rules, not for an assignment, but just as additional helpful knowledge.

Student A and I met and reviewed her current status in class. She is learning new material covering exponents - when to add, how to solve, when to multiply. After reviewing, she felt comfortable solving problems on her own. Student B was covering the same material - we also went through his homework, and he felt comfortable with the concepts after a few problems, as well.
