We've had the BEST experience with VT! Our tutor has helped my middle schoolers math grades come up from a D to an A for our 8th grader and from a D to a B for my 6th grader. I'm beyond pleased with how she connected with my boys.

Online 10th Grade Math Tutoring review by Danny
Today, the student and I continued to go over review problems, for her geometry final test. This covered many topics, including using congruency to solve figures, finding the area of various figures, and find arc lengths given other related geometric values. She did very well in solving problems, including problems where she initially did not know how to solve the problem, and was given a small hint, in order to solve it. There were some problems, related to memorization of formulas, that she could not solve. As such, she will review and memorize these equations. She understood explanations for complex problems very well. We will meet again at least once more before her final.

The student had just started a new unit on trigonometric functions, so we went over her worksheets and also worked through some homework problems. We sketched a lot of graphs and triangles, and in the end, it seemed as though she had a good grasp on the subject matter. She seemed comfortable with all the problems, and was able to work without much assistance.

We went through his review for his final. It was 51 questions form the beginning of the semester to the end. We covered polynomials, different kind of divisions, factoring, simplifying, logarithm, exponents, word problems and graph of exponential, rational and conics as well. He is doing well and just needs to review them once more.

For this lesson, we looked at perimeter and area and worked on understanding area formulas. The student got a very good grip on this after repeated tries. It is good that we got to touch on special right triangles, as he seemed to pick those up quickly.

We reviewed more of a past geometry test dealing with some of the more difficult problem solving techniques. The student is well prepared for his final math test at this point. His fundamentals and recall of relevant basic formulas and mathematical methods (Pythagorean Theorem, algebraic methods, basic trigonometric functions, 30-60-90 triangle identities, etc.) will allow him to solve a majority of problems quickly and correctly. We also began an advanced geometric problem relating the ratios of areas of generic solid bodies, while asking for the resulting ratio of their volumes. While this problem will most likely not appear on the test, we found it would require a similar process to elimination and substitution methods of solving two equations with two variables.

The student and I worked two hours today in preparation for his final, and worked one hour last week, which is included in today's session. We covered some word problems and review material from his algebra class.
