I am a Microbiologist at Washington University that studies the parasite that causes malaria. I have been mentoring, teaching and tutoring students at all levels from my time as an undergraduate at Brown University, through my graduate studies at MIT to my current research position now at Washington University. In college I tutored Biology, Chemistry and Organic Chemistry to fellow undergraduates. In graduate school I was a teaching assistant for undergraduate courses in Immunology and Genetics. The combination of my research experience along with my teaching experience means that I use the things I learned in Math, Chemistry and Biology on a daily basis. My approach to tutoring and teaching is to focus on the concepts that are crucial for the students to understand the material. By concentrating on the important concepts as opposed to memorization, I have found that students in the long run perform much better on their exams. My primary areas of experience are Chemistry through the college level and Biology at just about any level.

I graduated from the Georgia Institute of Technology in December of 2012, and received my Bachelor of Science in Industrial and Systems Engineering with a focus in Supply Chain and Logistics. Throughout my undergrad career, I spent a lot of time mentoring freshmen as a teacher's assistant for an intro course, and tutoring peers within my major. I enjoy education, and love spreading my knowledge by using the best suited strategy for the student. While I tutor all levels of math, my favorite subjects are SAT & ACT level mathematics. For fun, I enjoy all sports, running, playing Xbox, and using math to win fantasy football match-ups.

I have a BS degree in mathematics from Temple University, and I am passionate about math. In fact, to say I am passionate is something of an understatement. Math is the most beautiful thing in the universe, and I want open everybody's eyes to this deep and wonderful truth. Math is something to be enjoyed. I believe that while knowing the formulas and procedures is important, memorizing mathematical formulas without appreciating the concepts is akin to memorizing the lines of a Shakespeare play without paying attention to the underlying prose. My strongest subjects are linear algebra and pre-calculus though I am proficient at tutoring all high school and college underclassmen mathematical subjects.I hope that my passion is contagious and that all of my students leave me not only having learned the material but understanding the beauty and wonderment of it all.

Currently, I am an undergraduate student at the University of Michigan (Ann Arbor Campus). I am working towards a Bachelor of Science with a focus on neuroscience as I love biology, psychology, and the brain. However, I have tutored many students during my middle school and high school career in classes and in libraries. Outside of the classroom, I was the committee chair of the National Honor Society Tutoring Committee at my high school, and I primarily focused on high school math and science-related subjects since they were the most interesting to me. These subjects were often the most difficult and most stressful for students, and I wanted to make sure that not only will students learn and understand the material correctly but also feel less stressed about these difficult topics by applying them to more interesting aspects of the student's life. This outlook helps students develop better ways of learning topics in general and helps them grow as a person. In my free time, I love to bike, play the piano, and get sucked into different worlds in fantasy novels.

For as long as I have been a student, I have taken great pleasure in imparting my knowledge on others and in seeing others succeed. I especially love tutoring motivated, hard-working students to help them achieve their full potentials. When reviewing material with a student, I generally like to delve straight into the meat of a topic, helping the student along the way if need be. It is also crucial to be patient and understanding when a student is struggling with a concept, since this is conducive to the student's learning.I am currently in the process of obtaining a Bachelor of Science degree in pure mathematics at Rice University in Houston, Texas. I tutor a wide range of subjects including U.S. History, algebra, calculus, chemistry, comparative politics, economics, and test preparation. Although I enjoy tutoring in all of these subjects, I especially like tutoring math-related subjects such as high school algebra, calculus, and linear algebra. Outside of class and tutoring, I enjoy golfing, stargazing, collecting foreign coins, and playing the violin.

My undergraduate degree in Math Education is from Florida Institute of Technology in Melbourne, Florida. I have two master's degrees, one in Computer Resources and Information Management and the other in Educational Leadership from the University of Texas.I am passionate about teaching and tutoring middle and high school math. In high school, I have taught Algebra 1 and 2, Liberal Arts Math 1 and 2, Precalculus, AP Calculus, and AP Statistics. In addition, I have experience working at a community college and can help with College Preparatory Math and College Algebra. I have worked both in the classroom and virtually. My favorite math subject is Precalculus because I love Trigonometry!!I believe that ANY student can be successful in math but may need help. Making sure a student is comfortable is the first step and exploring what they are struggling with is second. Frequently, after understanding what a student may need, I create a plan that matches their unique learning style.Maybe you want to improve your college applications by getting help with the SAT or being more prepared for your next math class. We can work on that also.I have traveled all over the world! Extensively in Europe and to visit my son in Thailand. At home, my companions are my dog Sparkles and Tina Turner the cat. They love to cuddle. Also, I love taking walks, working in the garden, watching TV, listening to music, and hanging out with friends.I would love to help you with all of your middle and high school math tutoring needs. Looking forward to hearing from you!

10th Grade Tutor • +34 Subjects

I am currently attending Austin Community College and planning on transferring to a 4 year university to achieve a bachelors in chemical engineering after spring semester. Math was once a subject I dreaded on taking having this pre-conceptual thought since high school that I was bad at it, I put it off as long as possible in college. After taking some really hard classes like organic chemistry I had learned that if you go into a class thinking your bad at, that attitude will ultimately reflect on your grade. So there I was going into intermediate algebra with a changed mindset and the grade highly reflected that. Ever since that I have enjoyed math classes. Math is a difficult subject even for me moving up the ladder. Understanding concepts takes time, a lot of time and it can be frustrating. I know the struggle. I have been helping classmates from the beginning of my math career up to now. Given the opportunity to be a supplemental instructor for a college algebra class (the highest dropped class at ACC) it has really made me appreciate spreading the knowledge. Helping students go from D's and C's to A's and B's. The feeling of being able to help someone with a topic I once had difficulty with is indescribable. That is what ultimately led me to reach out to other tutoring positions such as varsity tutors. To spread the knowledge and to relay a positive message to fellow students or anyone looking to understand a difficult subject.Subjects I tutor,Algebra 1Algebra 2TrigonometryCalculus 1
