Elementary Math Tutoring review by Jessica in Sauk Village, IL
The student and I reviewed a test he had gotten back (he earned a 93%). So, we went over the two problems he had wrong. We then practiced perimeter, surveys, and mental math strategies.

Elementary Math Tutoring review by Mark in Sauk Village, IL
In this session, the student did a reading comprehension, verb, and adding worksheets. He read a passage about earthworms and why they are helpful to plants. After he was done reading, he answered questions about the passage. He got all of them correct. Next he did a verb worksheet. He had to read a short story about a rabbit. While reading, he had to underline the verbs in green. After he was done reading, he had to use those underlined verbs and make them into sentences. After he was done, he did an adding worksheet. He had to use a 100 chart to add. He would located the first number then count depending on the other number. For example, if he had 15+45, he would locate 15 on the chart and would count 45 times going to the right until he stops counting at 45. He got them all correct. He was not struggling with anything nor were there any concerns from this session. I did not leave him with any extra practice because he understood the material. He did an excellent job.

Elementary Math Tutoring review by Madelyne in Sauk Village, IL
Student M is still working on her multiplication tables. Right now we are drilling them over and over again so that she commits them to memory. I am trying to engage her and help her visualize the multiplication by using counting blocks. I am going to look into a new way to help her learn her times tables because flashcards and blocks are getting old. I want her to understand why multiplication works the way that it does, but memorizing the facts is going to be the most effective way to ensure that she stays on track. In reading Student M is still very proficient. Student S continues to be quiet, but his addition and subtraction are getting faster. He still has to count some on his fingers, but it seems that he is doing some calculations in his head, especially very easy ones. I look forward to seeing what he is doing in class so that I have a basis on where to work and what needs help. His reading is proficient. He is very good at sounding out words, but needs a little work with punctuation and how to express his voice when reading. I drew his attention to the punctuation in his book and had him practice over exaggerating his inflection so that he could see what I was trying to teach him. He is very bright.

Elementary Math Tutoring review by Victoria in Sauk Village, IL
During this session, we discussed the student's homework involving graphing lines by finding x- and y-intercepts. She struggled with this somewhat at first, but by the end she definitely showed improvement. Then we talked about the next section on arithmetic sequences and did a lot of practice writing equations for arithmetic sequences and finding certain terms in the sequence. She understood this material easily and was doing very well by the end of our session.

Elementary Math Tutoring review by David in Sauk Village, IL
I reviewed his first test with the student, going over those questions he missed. In addition, I taught him the next chapter -- to get him ahead. This included long and synthetic division, graphing, odd and even functions, how to determine the order of an equation from its graph, and how to determine the possible number of positive real roots, negative real roots, and imaginary roots. We reviewed a number of problems from his textbook to demonstrate all of this material.

Elementary Math Tutoring review by Bryce in Sauk Village, IL
We worked on getting the student up to speed on basic points, primarily basic characteristics of and methods for working with functions. She had better command of the subject than she had realized, needing only some guidance to raise confidence. She appeared to be ready to proceed into further practice with functions by the end of the session.
