I am a recent graduate from Tufts University with a major in International Relations and a minor in Economics. I have been helping students since I was in middle school working with students of all ages from kindergarten to college. Prior to spending four years at Tufts, I attended a boarding school in Massachusetts where I was committed to tutoring middle school students at a local Boys and Girls' Club for all four years. I always enjoyed seeing the energy of younger students who were eager to learn and their visible improvements. I also worked as a teaching assistant for an SAT prep center where I tutored SAT verbal and writing along with SAT II literature and math. I moved to Las Vegas a few months ago after finishing up college, and I would love to get back to working with students on a regular basis because I understand the importance of education and enjoy helping and seeing results. My favorite subject to teach is SAT because with the right help it is a standardized test that can see huge improvements in scores. Writing section is especially my forte because I think that grammar is the basic building block of the English language that deserves a little more attention in school. I feel a great sense of fulfillment when students start to understand the different structures of English sentences and appreciate such knowledge. In my spare time, I like to stay active and go to yoga classes, including antigravity yoga, and drive to national parks for fresh air. I am also a big foodie who enjoys regular trips to different restaurants with friends and an avid movie fan. I look forward to meeting with students here in Las Vegas!

I am a fourth year Medical Student in the Sophie Davis School of Biomedical Education at CCNY. This is a seven year BS/MD program, so by the end of the seven years, I will have achieved both degrees. I have a lot of tutoring experience in the K-12 age especially in the 7-12 grade range. I have taught SAT, SHSAT, ACT, SAT subject tests and Regents exams as well. My favorite subject to tutor is math and biology, but I am able to tutor other subject areas like reading, writing, chemistry, and physics. My tutoring style is very student oriented with some lecturing. I make sure that most of the time I am asking questions, even if it is basic, just to get the student to always be on his/her feet. I also make sure to use a lot of diagrams and flow charts when teaching. Outside of school, I spend a lot of time exploring and doing photography. I also love listening to music, watching basketball, and spending time with friends and family. Hobbies: books, photography, writing, reading, music, art

I am currently a lead preschool teacher. I received my Bachelor's in Psychology from VCU and am looking to return to school to further my education. While in college, I worked as a Supplemental Instruction leader, teaching general biology and anatomy. I have also worked in an after school program with elementary age children, but I have my fondest memories volunteering as a counselor for Camp Kesem. In my own experience, I loved school and now I love teaching even more at all age levels! I especially enjoy the challenge of getting creative to discover what approach and mediums work best for each student. I am available for in person as well as online tutoring.

Frequently Asked Questions
Word problems are challenging because they require students to translate real-world scenarios into algebraic equations—a skill that goes beyond procedural calculation. Tutors help students break down these problems step-by-step, identifying what information is relevant, defining variables clearly, and connecting the math to the context.
With personalized 1-on-1 instruction, tutors can slow down and practice specific problem-solving strategies, like drawing diagrams or working backward from the answer. This builds both confidence and the pattern recognition skills that make word problems feel less overwhelming.
Showing work isn't just about getting the right answer—it helps teachers (and tutors) understand your student's thinking and catch errors in reasoning. In elementary algebra, the ability to explain each step is essential because it builds conceptual understanding and catches common mistakes like incorrect sign changes or skipped steps.
Expert tutors work with students to develop organized, clear problem-solving habits. They reinforce not just the "how" but the "why" behind each step, transforming algebra from a mysterious set of rules into a logical progression that makes sense.
Multi-step equations require students to understand the order of operations and inverse operations—concepts that can feel abstract without the right scaffolding. The key is helping students see equations as a balance, where the same operation must be applied to both sides.
Tutors break this down into manageable steps, starting with simpler equations and gradually building complexity. They use visual strategies and concrete examples to help students recognize patterns, like how addition and subtraction undo each other. This approach builds procedural fluency while strengthening the conceptual foundation that prevents confusion later.
Yes—many students can solve equations algebraically but struggle to connect that skill to its visual representation on a graph. This happens because graphing requires students to think about relationships and patterns, not just follow procedural steps. The leap from an equation like y = 2x + 3 to understanding what that line actually represents is a genuine conceptual hurdle.
Personalized tutoring addresses this by connecting the algebraic and visual worlds. Tutors use interactive tools and real-world examples to show how equations describe patterns, why certain points lie on a line, and how slope and intercepts tell a story. When students see these connections, graphing becomes intuitive.
Math anxiety often stems from feeling lost or falling behind, which can create a cycle of avoidance. Elementary algebra is a critical transition point where abstract thinking becomes essential, and struggling here can shake a student's confidence. The pressure intensifies when algebra feels disconnected from real understanding.
1-on-1 tutoring helps by creating a safe, pressure-free space where students can ask questions without embarrassment and work at their own pace. Tutors celebrate progress, identify knowledge gaps early, and rebuild confidence by showing students they actually do understand algebra—it just needed the right explanation. This positive relationship often transforms a student's entire approach to math.
Yes, different curricula emphasize different approaches. Some textbooks lean heavily into procedural steps, while others emphasize conceptual understanding and real-world applications from the start. Some introduce graphing early, others later. These differences can be confusing if a student changes schools or needs supplemental help.
When you connect with a tutor, it's helpful to share your student's specific textbook and curriculum approach. Expert tutors are familiar with major programs and can align their instruction accordingly, ensuring that tutoring reinforces—rather than contradicts—what's being taught in class. They can also bridge gaps if your student's curriculum is weak in certain areas.
With consistent personalized instruction, most students see measurable improvement within 4-6 weeks—better understanding of core concepts, improved grades on assignments and quizzes, and increased confidence. The timeline depends on how far behind a student is and how frequently tutoring occurs.
More importantly, students develop lasting problem-solving skills and see algebra as logical rather than arbitrary. They learn to check their own work, recognize patterns, and tackle unfamiliar problems with a structured approach. These skills transfer beyond algebra to geometry, advanced math, and even science. The goal isn't just a better grade—it's building mathematical thinking that sticks.
