I have over 10 years of experience teaching high school English Language Arts, including grammar, composition, journalism, creative writing, public speaking, gothic literature, and literature from outside the US. I have helped over 1,000 students revise their college application essays, and I am awaiting results form a Master's thesis about reading comprehension in secondary science and history.

I earned my BA in English at Roanoke College, then worked for a year at a DC non-profit. I earned an MA in Teaching English grades 7-12 from NYU Steinhardt and immediately began my career as a teacher with the New York City Department of Education. I worked at two of NYC's prestigious specialized high schools, helping a diverse student population. I went on to earn National Board for Professional Teaching Standards certification.

I took some time away from teaching to pursue a second MA in Literacy Learning. My research focus was on reading comprehension and critical literacy in secondary science and history classes.
