Certified Tutor

My name is Jennifer Sigman and I have been a French and English teacher since 2009. I graduated from the University of Illinois-Chicago in 2008 with degrees in the Teaching of French and English Literature. I have taught all levels of French at the middle and high school levels, including AP French Language and Culture. Additionally, I have taught Reading Support classes for 9th and 10th grade and 9th grade English.

As a French teacher, I stress communication as the main goal of language-learning. I believe it is key that students are able to communicate with native speakers of French. I think many people feel as though their language-learning experiences in high school were limited to the study of grammar, the memorization of vocabulary and the use of the foreign language in the classroom only, which ignores the large world of resources available today to expose students to real uses of foreign language. I strive to incorporate authentic French materials into my classes in the form of Francophone literature, poetry, films, podcasts, video clips, infographics, ePals and communication via Skype, to name a few.

When I am not teaching, I enjoy reading, knitting, walking my dog, spending time with my husband, trying new restaurants, binge-watching new shows, and spending time with my good friends.
