Mia: Middle tutor

Certified Tutor

My name is Mia and I'm a recent graduate from the University of Illinois with a B.S. in Molecular and Cellular Biology and Spanish. I graduated on the pre-med track and plan to attend medical school next year. Throughout my studies, I've developed a passion for teaching other students. I have worked with students ranging from kindergarten to college aged in private tutoring sessions as well as formal classroom learning.

I have extensive experience with language learning and would love to tutor in this area. During a study abroad program in Barcelona, Spain I tutored many children in one on one sessions to improve their English language skills in the areas of reading, writing, listening and speaking. I also conducted 2 classroom sessions weekly for college students to improve their conversational English skills. Through Varsity Tutors, I would love to continue helping students improve their language skills in both English and Spanish.

I also am very well equipped to tutor students in any of the sciences. I have excelled in science courses in biology, chemistry and physics. I feel extremely comfortable teaching these subjects to students who may need extra help and would love to help them succeed in these courses, as I understand how challenging they can be.

Other than science and language skills, I would love to help students in the areas of organization and standardized testing skills. I scored highly on the ACT and am in the process of studying for the MCAT, so I have developed very effective strategies for standardized testing as well as organization. These skills important for students to succeed in and I would love to help.

Outside of my studies and tutoring, I love to run both competitively and for recreation. I also enjoy spending time with family and friends and traveling.

Overall, I look forward to working with Varsity tutors to give students the extra help they need to succeed. I believe that every student is different and there is no one-style-fits-all when it comes to learning. I would love to help you/your student find the strategies that work best to be the most successful student possible!
