Reba-Anna: Montreal tutor
Certified Tutor
I have taught high school and college level course for over a decade. I believe that there are common themes that students posses that can impede their learning. A key element is self confidence in their ability to learn. I believe in building up a student's confidence as they learn a subject so they can retain the information and can apply it in real world scenarios.

What is your teaching philosophy?
I believe that all students can learn whatever you offer them. It is just a matter of self-motivation and confidence in their abilities.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
I would do introductions about my background, the student's goals and desired outcomes. I would also establish measurable benchmarks and a realistic timeline.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
In order to become an independent learner, a student needs to build a high level of self-motivation and what they want to achieve through learning a skill/subject. The underlying key is the building of the student's self-confidence.
How would you help a student stay motivated?
I would try different ways of approaching the subject. I would also be very patient and work on the pieces that the student does not understand.
