I hold a master's degree in English from Boston College, and I have 5-6 years of tutoring experience, depending on the subject. I also teach college level writing and English.I tutor ESL/ELL, English, Writing, Editing, Grammar and Style, SAT Reading, and Literature. I most enjoy tutoring writing, since that's what I teach, and literature, since that's what I enjoy studying most.My tutoring (and teaching) style is relatively informal, since I like to make sure students are comfortable both with me and the material. I also find that a more casual setting increases students' willingness to learn and their ability to retain material. My goal is to make sure that the student not only understands the material, but is confident in their understanding, since that leads to better grades and, ultimately, a better education. When I'm not teaching or tutoring, I enjoy music, cooking, writing, watching Jeopardy obsessively, and being outside with my dogs.

I am a sophomore student at Cornell University, studying Computer Science. I also find Linguistics and Natural Language Processing extremely interesting, and I hope to pursue a minor in them. In my spare time, you might find me singing, reading, or cooking! My passion for teaching has been present for as long as I can remember. My younger brother has a learning disability, and so I have spent most of my life trying to see the world the way he sees it, while letting him into mine. This ongoing experience has given me an appreciation for the dimension and variety that minds offer, and it has taught me that not everyone learns, or thinks, the same way. I hope to provide accommodation and empathy in everything I do, and learn just as much from my students as they do from me! My formal tutoring experience was with refugee students, whom I taught English and math. That exposure gave me an introduction to tutoring those who may not be as comfortable with English, and I built on my skill of speaking concisely and simply when required. I tutor a broad range of subjects, but most enjoy teaching middle and high school English, Social Science, and Math. I am a firm believer in education, and its power to uplift and encourage. This is something that I have seen in my parents' lives, and one that as a college student I am now experiencing firsthand. It is my goal to be of great help to all my students on their educational path!

I went to the University of Southern California for my bachelors in acting and theater. . However, I am currently pursuing my second bachelors in psychology at Hunter college.I tutor on the side because tutoring/teaching is something I'm quite gifted and passionate about. I have successfully tutored many subjects including Algebra 1 and 2, Elementary Math, Math Concepts,ReadingComprehension, Writing, Vocabulary, Grammar, Proofreading/editing, Chemistry, Beginners French, Study skills, and Test-taking skills.I have been tutoring younger students since I was in the tenth grade. Since then I have tutored a variety of ages and subjects, for a total of about seven years. I definitely have a complete understanding of every single subject I tutor.I will start by learning about you and evaluating your individual learning style. From there I will create a personalized, structured lesson plan, and we will work together to meet your academic goals. I tend to find most students need help with the fundamentals, so I always look to evaluate and solidify those. After that, we implement the individualized plan to help the student understand the material. I am a very patient and enthusiastic tutor, and I have worked with a range of students from those with learning disabilities to Honors and AP students. I absolutely love a challenge and will put not only my mind but my heart into your success!I truly hope that you consider me for tutoring - I will do the absolute best job I can to help you succeed in your academic difficulties. One of my greatest jobs is when I see a struggling student finally grasp a concept we've been working on together! I hope to hear from you!

In 2013 I graduated from Houston Baptist University with my Bachelor of Arts in English and Biblical Languages. I minored in Latin and received the outstanding student award in English. After my BA, I moved from Houston to Boston with my husband. In 2015 I earned my MA in Classical Studies from the University of Massachusetts in Boston, focusing on Greek and Latin literature. I am currently working on my PhD in English Literature at Southern Methodist University. I specialize in the intersection between ancient texts and Christianity as it is evident in Renaissance literature. During my MA I worked as a teacher's assistant, learning teaching strategies from many distinguished professors. Students met with me one on one to discuss assignments, work on papers, and review for tests. During these years I had the opportunity to work with several ESL students and students with disabilities. Being deaf in my right ear gives me a unique perspective when working with students struggling with disabilities because I have fought those battles myself, albeit to a smaller degree than some. I firmly believe that disabilities should never stand in the way of learning.I currently teach DISC writing courses at SMU and help students make sure that their writing is up to the collegiate level. I also work with an ESL program in the Frisco area. In this program, I help students of all levels in their journey to learn English.I love literature, and I hope to be able to share that joy with others. I am always happy to help students improve their writing and expand their vocabularies, regardless of the language. When it comes to test prep, my knowledge of Latin and Greek allows me to point out roots of words that will enable students to determine vocabulary definitions much faster. A good education provides a strong foundation for life, and I love helping others establish that firm ground from which they will continue to grow. I am always challenging myself by reading new books and articles.Throughout my life, I have studied Spanish, Latin, German, Hebrew, Greek, Old English, and Japanese. This strong background in foreign languages means that I am intimately familiar with the language acquisition process, and I love using that background to help others take their first steps with a foreign language. I firmly believe that learning another language should be fun and that it is one of the most rewarding journeys a person can take. When working with children, I like to use items that they already know and love to help them learn.

Self-improvement is difficult to accomplish by oneself. It is always better to have a someone who can assist, coach, inspire, and challenge you. I hope I can be that person for you. Here is a little splurge about me before you make your decision...I graduated from Hampden-Sydney College with a Bachelor's of Art in English and a minor in Religion. While in school, I was the go-to-guy for history articles because developed an ability to describe the past in a way that was insurmountable. After school I went to Tokyo, Japan and taught for a year. While enjoying the food and culture, I honed in on developing my ability to teach English in a way that is comprehensive to English Language Learners.Shortly afterwards, I came back to America and began teaching at a high school as a Long Term Substitute. When I have time, I like to read, write, (attempt to) solve rubik's cubes, and play sports with my friends.

I am a high school history teacher who has also worked as a teaching assistant at one of the country's top 10 colleges. I've taught ACT/SAT prep for about 4 years to students at all ends of the academic spectrum: from those working with learning disabilities/accommodations & struggling with timing to those trying to achieve perfect scores. Although I always create individualized plans, I focus on teaching every student the most effective, step-by-step way to approach each question on each section of the test. Beyond test prep, I've taught/tutored just about every academic subject through the undergraduate level. Outside the classroom, I enjoy reading about history, going to church, coaching sports (track & tennis), and spending time with my family. I really enjoy getting to know each student I teach as we work toward our goals.

I am a tutor, a theater director/writer, and a recent graduate of the University of Chicago, where I got my B.A. in Theater and Performance Studies. I have experience as a writing tutor working with students in elementary school through high school and as an assistant teacher in elementary schools and kids' theater classes. I also have experience critiquing and offering feedback on plays by college students and professional playwrights. In both academic and artistic settings, I love language almost as much as I love learning about the people I'm working with and fine-tuning the ways I work with them. My goal is always to make the process as productive and supportive as possible. I see tutoring as collaboration between tutor and student. I like to start by helping a student discover what they find interesting about an assignment and then what they find most challenging. From there, we can break down the project and work together to find the strategies that work best for the individual student. I firmly believe that learning can and should be fun and driven by the student's interests and specific needs.
