Today in our session we went over a classwork assignment as well as a homework assignment. The main concepts we covered were the properties of squares and the properties of rhombi. Other concepts we reviewed were the use of the midpoint formula, angle measurements, and trig functions. The student had some difficulty figuring out a word problem so I created a similar problem to assess her understanding. Even though her numeracy is not proficient, she completes the problems quickly using her calculator once the correct method is established.

Today was our last session; we covered a brief review of her social studies exam that she has tomorrow, and finished going over science topics for her science exam tomorrow. For science, we went over the complete study guide, ensuring that she knew every topic covered. In addition, we practiced naming ionic and covalent molecules as that will be highly covered on her exam tomorrow as well. The student is well prepared for this exam, and I believe she will do well; she also said that she feels very confident in the material.

The student and I reviewed for his first-quarter exam tonight. Overall, he had little trouble with the material on his study guide, the only significant struggle being fraction arithmetic. We spent some extra time going over the different rules for adding and subtracting fractions versus multiplying and dividing.

Tutoring review by Rohan in Tenafly, NJ
The student and I worked on problems, this time focusing on writing and interpreting molecular formulas. There were no calculations, just lots of balancing electron dot structures and figuring out how atoms connect to each other. This is a very important fundamental concept for future chemistry topics, so I will spend a lot of time on this with him.
