Tutoring review by Alonso in Hillsdale, NJ
The student is wrapping up the section with rational functions. It seems he was having some problems earlier but figured them out. He found vertical and horizontal asymptotes, holes of function and zeros of functions. Once he had all that he graphed it. Occasionally he made an error in graphing the function, but we talked about how to use the exponents of its factors as another feature of the graph to alleviate that.

The student has been working on the same topic - using the difference between two means or proportions as a random variable - since the last time we met. His exam is this week, but we had one more chance to practice some problems beforehand. They are long, involved problems, but we practiced one of each type, and I think the student is well-prepared for his exam.

Tutoring review by Wade in Hillsdale, NJ
We went over some practice problems from her SAT prep guide and discussed general test taking strategies for the math section. She seemed to be fairly proficient with algebra but struggled with geometry. She can also be a little intimidated by some questions so we worked on trying to simplify and break down questions so they weren't as daunting. She has strong organizational skills and has done a large amount of studying prior to our session. I encouraged her to go back through previous problems to see if the strategies I taught might help her tackle those problems. We planned to continue working on the math portion in our next session.
