She will use the same practice regimen for chapter 5 as well. She is solid in computation, but needs to practice setting up problems. We did several problems with charts to help her do that; she showed improvement in understanding.

The student is showing improvement in her understanding and recollection of the material. She should continue practicing (during sessions and on her own when possible) to keep this up. When she has time, she should work on the practice test I sent to the student. The last half hour or so we reviewed for her test tomorrow. She felt fairly confident with the material. The student has begun trigonometry. We reviewed the construction of sin, cos, tan, sec, csc, and cot in triangles. We worked several example problems using radians in angular systems, which he rightly approached as unit conversion questions. We spent the lion's share of the session on learning the unit circle and why it is so useful. By the end of the session, he was able to construct the first quadrant of the unit circle slowly, using logic when he couldn't remember values exactly. Next session should continue and deepen the use of the unit circle as well as touch on the uses of trig identities.

We used diagnostic test to review the student's reading and verbal skills. I advised her to read carefully and narrow down the answers by excluding incorrect answers. If she narrows them down to two, she should go back and re-read the section. She is going to work on a math diagnostic test on her own today, and then if she needs another session, she will let me know. I think she should do well!

Rather than finding extrema of a function, we used functions to define different expressions, such as the volume of a box or area of a rectangle, and attempted to optimize the area based on initial conditions and derivatives. Additionally, we worked on L'Hopital's rule with limits, and conditions for invoking said rule.
