I am a rising sophomore at Harvard College and I am studying social studies with a focus on Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations. I have lived my whole life until college in the incredible countries of Rwanda and Kenya (with one year in Egypt). Since education wasn't easily accessible to me through elementary school, very early on I had to learn how to love learning and teach myself. Even after many years of more formal education I haven't lost that spark and that ownership of my education yet! I love tutoring because it allows me to bring people into that same kind of ownership of their knowledge. I love tutoring all sorts of different subjects, but I have the most experience (and maybe the most love) for tutoring in calculus, French, Arabic, English as a second language, and test prep!

I am a recent graduate of Duke University, where I obtained a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics in 2014. I am primarily a math tutor but I also enjoy teaching chemistry and physics. Math was always my favorite subject in high school and I continued my love of math at Duke. I have also been a middle school and high school tutor throughout my time at Duke through the Program in Education. One of my crowning achievements at Duke was winning the DT Stallings Award, which is awarded to a Duke senior who has shown sustained and dedicated service to tutoring local school children. When I am tutoring a student, I prefer a very hands-on approach. I love working out problems with my students after working through an example problem completely. By working problems out with my students, I am able to help them if and when they get stuck. I hope to convey to every student the ability to think logically and persevere when things seem difficult.

I am willing to help a student reach higher grades, but more important to me than the grade is that the student is actually getting something out of what we are doing, and truly learning, not just retaining information, but engaging with the material and enjoying what they are learning. I am a PhD student in Literature at Duke University. I have been tutoring (and directing tutoring programs) for years and am looking forward to working with you to meet your goals! I'm hoping to help my students get as excited about learning as I always have been! My most recent teaching experience has been with a local marine biology summer camp, where I do my best to get the kids stoked about biology, ecology, environmental science, and conservation. While I feel most passionate about marine biology, I am also qualified to tutor a variety of different subjects. I have taken the SAT 11 different times, and feel very confident teaching standardized test subjects! I am a graduate of Duke University with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science with minors in Education and Documentary Studies. Before I went to college, I spent a lot of time in an elementary school classroom volunteering, especially in the summers, and that was when I realized I love tutoring. I spent all four years of college tutoring local students in the area in math, reading, and government. I'm a dental hygiene resident at UNC Adams School of Dentistry and studying to be dental hygiene educator. My thesis and research is focused on environmentally sustainable dental practices. Part of my graduate student duties is to educate and tutor adult learners on subjects such oral pathology, microbiology, tooth anatomy, and clinical skills. I also have experience educating and tutoring learners from grades pre-k to 12 on subjects that range from writing/reading to math. Educating and learning is for everyone but sometimes it's about finding the method that works for you. Personal understanding of what learning methods work and willingness to explore is key to lifelong academic success and development.

I am an English major and potential Secondary Education minor at Boston College. I hope to concentrate on creative writing, so naturally it is my favorite subject to tutor. In assisting students with writing at Boston Latin, I have found that some students have a natural turn for writing essays and need little more than encouragement and editing. With most students, however, writing is not a skill they can effortlessly pick up, and creativity is not instantly fluid. Bearing that in mind, I use a Socratic method to draw out ideas and key words and phrases when helping students come up with responses to creative writing essay questions, i.e., the kind given on SATs, ACTs and on college essays. Usually, by the end of the session, they find out that they need a lot less help than they thought! I have also done a fair amount of math and science tutoring with middle and high school students, which is almost easier, since full comprehension can be immediately and clearly demonstrated. I generally design some sort of worksheet in order to walk the student through the process of figuring out the general concept in a unique way; for example, I will use an angle maze to teach geometric angle theorems. I am a proponent of the mindset that learning to learn is much more important than learning pure information, so I always focus more on the process than the outcome. I love to teach, and I hope to work in a high school some day!

I'm Erintrude, a recent graduate of Kenyon College and an MFA candidate at NCSU. I have two years of experience tutoring elementary level reading and writing for two different families, and miscellaneous tutoring experience in the fields of French, English and Test Prep (SAT and ACT). As a co-founder and head editor of a publishing press at my college, for a year and a half I have run workshops where I assigned contemporary literature, and taught these pieces to deepen reader's comprehension.
