Rosalyn
Certified Science Tutor
Rosalyn
Current Undergrad, Mathematics Amherst College
1+ Years Tutoring

As a math major at Amherst College with a 34 ACT, Rosalyn brings serious quantitative muscle to the parts of science that trip students up most — calculating density, converting units, interpreting graphs, and making sense of formulas in physics or chemistry. She's especially good at finding a second or third way to explain a concept when the first approach doesn't land, which matters in a subject where one confusing diagram can derail an entire lesson. Rated 5.0 by students.

Haley
Certified Science Tutor
Haley
MS University of Notre Dame • BA Northwestern State University of Louisiana
4+ Years Tutoring

From studying malaria genetics at Notre Dame to working in a public health laboratory, Haley has spent years applying the scientific method across biology, chemistry, and microbiology — not just reading about it. She breaks down concepts like experimental design, data interpretation, and systems-level thinking so students see how different science disciplines connect rather than treating each as its own silo.

Joshua
BA Stanford University
4+ Years Tutoring

Stanford's Human Biology program sits at the intersection of molecular science, ethics, and public health, which gave Joshua an unusually broad view of how scientific concepts connect to the real world. He breaks down topics like cell signaling, genetics, and ecological systems by tying them to concrete examples — how a virus hijacks a cell, why antibiotic resistance spreads — so the underlying logic sticks. That approach is especially useful for students who can memorize facts but struggle to explain the 'why' behind them.

Mustafa
BA Vanderbilt University
6+ Years Tutoring

Mustafa's math degree at Vanderbilt gives him a quantitative edge when breaking down science concepts — interpreting data tables, balancing chemical equations, or converting units in physics problems. He treats science as a subject where precision with numbers matters just as much as understanding the concepts behind them.

Jennessa
Current Undergrad Student, International Relations Boston College
8+ Years Tutoring

Working with newly-arrived immigrant children in Boston means Jennessa regularly explains everyday scientific concepts — weather patterns, plant growth, how the body works — in plain, accessible language, which is exactly the skill that makes science click for any student still building content vocabulary. She leans on hands-on examples and real-world connections to make topics like states of matter or basic ecology feel intuitive rather than textbook-heavy. Rated 5.0 by students.

Emma
BA Georgia Institute of Technology-Main Campus
4+ Years Tutoring

Aerospace engineering at Georgia Tech means Emma lives in the overlap of physics, chemistry, and applied math every day — forces, thermodynamics, fluid behavior, and the calculus that ties them together. She's particularly good at translating abstract scientific principles into concrete, visual explanations that make problem-solving feel less like guesswork.

6+ Years Tutoring

As an environmental studies major at Oberlin, Nina connects science to the real world — explaining ecosystems, weather patterns, or the water cycle through examples kids can actually observe outside their window. She's especially strong with earth and life science topics, making vocabulary-heavy material stick by tying it to hands-on thinking rather than rote memorization.

Studying wildlife science at the master's level means Darcey applies the scientific method daily — designing field studies, analyzing ecological data, and interpreting results across biology, chemistry, and environmental systems. She breaks down concepts like energy transfer, natural selection, and experimental design by connecting them to real ecosystems she's actually studied in the field.

Mikaelah
DSC New York University

I graduated with a BA in Politics and a BA in Anthropology from NYU in 2022. I also hold a MS in Biomedical Anthropology and a Graduate Certificate in Forensic Health and Nursing from SUNY Binghamton (graduated May 2024). I have worked in education, with a previous position with America Reads/America Counts teaching elementary students in the NYC public school system. My previous virtual tutoring experience was with Curious Cardinals, where I had tutored high school students with the following: forensic science, biology (anatomy, genetics), SAT Evidence-Based Reading and Writing, ACT English and ACT Reading. I have experience working in forensic science policy at the Innocence Project, which is an organization focused on exonerating individuals who were wrongfully convicted of crime. In this role, I have written testimonials, case reports, and research articles on forensic identification methods and their legal, ethical, political, and privacy implications in casework. I have also worked in the forensic science sector as a Criminalist II at the NYC Office of Chief Medical Examiner (OCME). In this position, I assisted medical examiners (forensic pathologists) in the positive identification of deceased individuals throughout New York City. I also assisted in missing persons inquiries that were brought to the agency. Recently, I completed a research project in Vitoria de Santo Antao and Recife (both in the state of Pernambuco, in northeast Brazil) as a Fulbright Grantee. My research focused on osteology, forensic anthropology, and forensic genetics. My project involved metric analyses of bones combined with analyzing genetic information from DNA taken from bones. Currently, I am a doctoral student of Biological Sciences - Genetics at the University of Sao Paulo (USP). As a doctoral student, my dissertation project is expanding on the research I did with the Fulbright grant and is based on the central question/problem: What is the evolutionary relationship between skeletal morphology (primarily size), external pigmentation (i.e., skin, hair), and the presence of vitamin D deficiencies (which are indicated by the presence of skeletal lesions and decreased bone mineral density)? My favorite subjects in school were biology and anatomy, U.S. history, statistics, pre-algebra and algebra I, language and literature. I also partook in concert band and orchestra both in high school and in college. I am excited to share my skills and knowledge in these subjects with you, as well!

Simon
BA University of Pennsylvania
9+ Years Tutoring

An economics degree means Simon spent years building and testing models — controlling for variables, interpreting data sets, and figuring out whether the numbers actually support a conclusion or just look like they do. That same process underpins every science class, from setting up a controlled experiment to reading a graph and explaining what it reveals. His 1540 SAT confirms the quantitative and analytical chops to back it up.

Josef
BA Cornell University
1+ Years Tutoring

Scoring in the 99th percentile on the MCAT required Josef to master science across disciplines — biology, chemistry, physics, and biochemistry — and he brings that integrated perspective to every session. Rather than treating each science topic as isolated, he connects ideas like energy transfer in physics to metabolic pathways in biology, showing students how the same principles reappear across fields.

Solange
BA Harvard University
8+ Years Tutoring

Sociology research at Harvard meant Solange spent years designing surveys, analyzing datasets, and defending conclusions in front of professors who demanded airtight reasoning — all of which is applied scientific method, even if the subject matter was social rather than physical. She's especially effective at teaching students to distinguish correlation from causation and to read charts and graphs with a critical eye, since those skills were daily requirements in her coursework. Her 34 ACT confirms she can handle the quantitative side of science just as comfortably as the conceptual.

A chemistry major headed to Columbia Medical School, James treats science tutoring as an exercise in building intuition — understanding why a reaction proceeds a certain way or how energy flows through a biological system, not just memorizing diagrams. He's especially sharp at bridging the gap between introductory courses and the more rigorous thinking that AP or IB-level science demands.

Renee
BA Colgate University • Doctor of Philosophy, Spanish and Iberian Studies Princeton University

A PhD program in Spanish and Iberian Studies might not scream 'science,' but Renee's doctoral training drilled the same core skills science coursework requires — forming a thesis from evidence, analyzing patterns in complex material, and defending conclusions under scrutiny. She's particularly useful for students who struggle with the literacy-heavy side of science: parsing dense textbook passages, interpreting diagrams, and writing clear lab reports that actually explain what happened and why.

She builds each session around the specific science course and topics a student is wrestling with.
