I'm Yosef, a doctoral fellow earning my Ph.D. in Child Clinical Psychology; I currently work and receive training as a child therapist as well. I have had a been educated in a variety of subjects since college, that include Biology, Chemistry, Statistics, and of course, Social Sciences. I have a passion for education and I enjoy teaching and tutoring. Personally, I believe that educating a child involves much more than stating facts and hoping they listen. Children learn best when they are rewarded for trying (I am a big fan of scheduled positive reinforcements) and when they can why studying a subject is importance. I have worked in behavioral management and therapy for several years and I know how to inspire children to learn and eventually develop their own motivation for trying.

I am from the great city of Austin, Texas, and graduated from the University of Texas at Austin in 2018 with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology. Before attending UNTHSC, I worked as a Certified Dermatology Tech as part of Dr. Bryan Townsends' Mohs Surgery Team, while waiting tables at Matt's El Rancho and Chuy's Tex-Mex restaurants. I will be attending TCOM next year. As a CAP tutor and fellow classmate, I hope to promote a collaborative and supportive environment for students in all programs at UNTHSC. I am a Masters student with a 3.9 GPA studying Industrial/Organizational Psychology. I have taken many years of statistics, both at the undergraduate and the graduate level, and have years of tutoring experience. As a high schooler, I independently tutored a young girl in both reading and math for several years. Separately, I also tutored two young women for whom English was a second language.In my undergraduate career at UCSD, I was a teaching assistant for an upper division psychology course. As part of my graduate assistantship, I also assist or instruct (depending on the semester) for undergraduate statistics. I host office hours and SPSS-based labs, grade assignments, present material, provide study tools, and act as as a support system for my students. I have experience writing graduate school application essays and reviewing others'. Lastly, I have a wealth of scientific writing experience thanks to years of research and Master's thesis work.I am passionate about helping people achieve that "A ha!" moment. I was presented with an opportunity to teach while I finished my last few semesters of my undergraduate degree and I continued to teach throughout my graduate degree. It has been said that those who can, do. Those who can't, teach. I strongly disagree. I believe that in order toeffectively tell the story of any subject, one must be aware of all of the hidden objects in the dark room. In order to teach effectively, you have to know how to navigate the dark room as if the lights are on. I believe that teaching is the highest form of understanding and that those who trulyunderstand, teach. As a teacher, you get to the chance to connect to students in a completely unique and rewarding way. I have yet to find a way to better describe my love for teaching.Outside of teaching and tutoring, I do not fit the "nerd" stereotype. I grew up playing every sport under the sun. I started playing baseball and basketball when I was 6, started playing football when I was in 5th grade and picked up golf and track in high school. I grew up in the Black Hills in South Dakota and am the complete outdoors man at heart. I love to hike, camp, hunt, fish and archery. In my spare time, I also love to run, bike and read (all sorts of books!). I love to play the guitar and have been playing for about 12 years now. I play mostly for myself but will only sing if I'm alone (or if my girlfriend asks).
