Phonics Tutoring review by Janett in Eagan, MN
The student reviewed lyrics to a song as per mother's request. She reviewed letter names, sounds and practiced "sand writing" of letters she is having difficulty identifying in name and sounds. She played a word matching game, and practiced reading four pages of a book along with practicing sight words. She was left with a book to practice four pages.

Phonics Tutoring review by Chris in Eagan, MN
Today we worked on a review of Chemistry and Freshman English. The student still has more Chemistry to do but I believe he will be fine for the majority of it. As for Freshman English, we worked on a review of an instruction assignment and he now has some quizzes on that. After the quizzes, he needs to do two more instruction assignments with associated quizzes. As soon as he finishes those, he will be ready for the next test. I expect him to complete his next test on Monday of next week. Good luck!

The student reviewed a story that he wrote during last session; the student reread a previous story and then wrote his own story from a different point of view; the student worked on cause/effect, where he had to match the cause to the effect and explain his reasoning. The student was more attentive this session and had better focus.

Phonics Tutoring review by Margaret in Eagan, MN
We did several practice multiple choice sections for poetry. We also went over a lot of vocabulary and how to identify meter, rhyme scheme and different kinds of poems that had come up in questions on practice exams. We confirmed our next meeting and I gave her some homework, including a practice poetry analysis essay and some new vocabulary to study in addition to what we went over tonight.

Phonics Tutoring review by Lisa in Eagan, MN
The student and I went through the sight word cards we made and divided them into two stacks: words he could read quickly and words we need to practice. At this point he knows 40 of the words. We also read a story together and practiced being able to retell what happened in the beginning, middle, and end. I also asked him to write about and draw his favorite part of the story.

Phonics Tutoring review by Madison in Eagan, MN
Today, the student and I made flashcards for this week's words and colored in the flashcards from last week to review. I think it's important to do a refresher of last week's words each week so she may retain them. When we are done with all 100 sight words, we will review them all and put them in piles based on how confident she is with them. We also haven't gone over our phonogram flashcards in awhile, so we will go over those once we're done with sight words. I brought my iPad today and showed her the phonogram app, which she really enjoyed. As I've mentioned before, she is a hands-on learner and interactive apps would be a great learning tool for her. She mentioned that she really likes Dr. Seuss, particularly The Lorax, so next time I will bring a Dr. Seuss book to read together, since I think she has a pretty firm grasp of phonograms and sight words at this point.
