I have always had a passion for learning: the only thing I enjoy more than grasping a difficult concept is helping others gain that same understanding. I have always been near the top of my classes, which, along with my genial nature, led to me helping classmates learn as far back as elementary school. This informal tutoring continued into high school and college. Because of this experience, as well as my volunteer work in elementary special needs classrooms, I am experienced at tutoring students of all ages.I received a college preparatory diploma from St. Louis University High School and am currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Physics. With a perfect ACT score and perfect scores in all 6 of my AP classes, my knowledge of high school material and test taking abilities is exceptional. As for college, I have taken math classes up to Partial Differential Equations, and physics classes up to Modern Physics II.As a physics major, my favorite subject to tutor is obviously science. However, math and test prep are also very fulfilling for me to tutor. I find the most effective way to tutor these topics is to first establish a thorough understanding of the core concepts, then show how the rest of the concepts naturally follow. Thus my tutoring style relies less on rote memorization and more on discovering connections between different concepts.

I strongly believe that the best way to teach a student is to adapt to their needs and that in order to best teach you have to not just work with them but also try to connect with them. I have been working in an instructor-type position since the end of 2017 but have prior experience tutoring classmates in mathematics. I've worked as a teaching assistant for the Center for Gifted Youth out of LIU Post for 4 years as well as a tutor for LIU Post in both French and Mathematics. I now hold a position as a Substitute Teacher for the NYC Department of Education and have worked with students ranging from Pre-K to 8th grade. I also privately tutor students of all ages ranging from elementary grade levels to high school. I earned my B.S. in Mathematics from LIU Post where I was able to work closely with professors to create a program that best fit my needs, for example, adjusting my classes to challenge myself. I completed my Bachelor???s at the University of South Florida with an honors thesis on the current research in the field of linguistic relativity among bilinguals. My research interests include literacy, the relationship between cognition and language, and the history of language. My other interests include public speaking and volunteering. My goal is to become a Ph.D. researcher after I obtain my Certificate of Clinical Competence as a speech therapist. I tutor a wide variety of ages in a range of subjects, including but not limited to test preparation, latin, philosophy, and writing. I try to incorporate research-based techniques and methods into my tutoring whenever possible.

I enjoyed substitute teaching in Iowa school systems, then became a social worker for families facing challenges for two years.I was born and raised in Chicago then moved to the suburbs. I grew up playing hockey and participated in many sports in high school. I enjoy creating art and appreciating the art others create. I believe that whether someone cooks, fixes cars, listens to their friends, hangs out or any of the other billions of activities, they are expressing themselves-and that is art.When I teach-I ask questions because I be people are capable of discovering the answers. A few years later, I attended LaGuardia Community College and became a licensed veterinary technician, which means I am an animal nurse!My academic interests mostly relate to animals: zoology, evolutionary ecology, paleozoology, social evolution, and phylogenetics. I also love studying history, and will always assert that nothing happens in a historical vacuum.In my free time I do a lot of reading and a lot of writing, on topics ranging from politics to science to kids' cartoons.

As I studied Physics as an undergraduate, I developed a deep appreciation for mathematics as a tool to model just about anything. I took a class called Math, Equity, and Access to Power and was inspired to become a mathematics teacher. After earning a Masters and Secondary Math Credential in California, I taught at an LAUSD school for four years. During those four years, I learned to discern when students were going to need support, what common misconceptions were, and how to best help students be successful depending on their personality and learning styles. My approach to working with your student is to help them develop an understanding of the mathematical topics they are learning in a holistic way. Your child will do more than simply practice problems, they will discuss and explain how the mathematics works. I implement strategies from Kagan and Equity and Access to help keep your child engaged and focused during a tutoring session.I believe every student has the potential to be successful in mathematics and I am excited to be a part of helping your child succeed.
