Lawanda: North Carolina State University tutor
Certified Tutor
For the past fifteen years, I have had the privilege of working with students from diverse backgrounds. After working as a regular education teacher for one year, I developed a special interest in students with special needs. My philosophy as an educator is that everyone is capable of learning, but not everyone learns in the same manner. Therefore, learning is individualized, and it is important for teachers, as well as tutors, to use various strategies and learning tools to assist students with learning. I have a Bachelor of Arts degree with a concentration in English Literature from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana and a Master of Education degree with a concentration in special education from Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond, LA. For the past eight years, I have worked as an educational diagnostician, where I assess students' needs and recommend suitable interventions according to the Child Find law. I am excited about the opportunity to serve as a tutor in elementary and middle school English, reading, and writing. My main objective as a tutor is to motivate students to learn and encourage them to become independent thinkers and problem solvers. In my spare time, I enjoy attending church, spending time with my family and friends, traveling, reading, writing, watching movies, and dining out.
