Nicole: Westchester tutor
Certified Tutor
I studied Psychology at Fordham University, and I'm currently working toward my doctorate (PsyD) in Clinical Psychology at Widener University. My background helps me understand not just what students and people are struggling with, but why, and how to support them in a way that sticks.
I've worked with students in a variety of settings, from mentoring first-year college students to leading group sessions in clinical environments with teens and young adults. I've also had many private tutorees in a variety of subjects, including math, language arts, history, science, and more. Through it all, I've learned how important it is to meet students where they are, listen carefully, and help them build both confidence and skills.
While I tutor a broad range of subjects, I am most passionate about psychology and writing. I love helping students find their voice in their writing or make sense of complex topics in psychology. It's so rewarding to see them take ownership of their learning. I also have a significant amount of experience editing papers for both professional and academic use. I have collaborated on papers ranging from explanations of complicated medical devices to meaningful college essays.
My tutoring style is warm, flexible, and collaborative. I don't believe in a one-size-fits-all approach. Instead, I focus on building a connection, understanding how each student learns best, and working together to set goals and tackle challenges. I want students to feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and celebrating their progress. I love being a part of that "aha" moment when things finally click.
Outside of tutoring, I'm a big believer in staying curious and balanced. I love creative writing; it's a way for me to reflect, explore new ideas, and express myself. I'm also an avid reader and enjoy getting lost in all kinds of books, from psychological thrillers to memoirs to classic literature. Travel is another huge passion of mine; I've been lucky enough to visit about 20 countries so far, and I'm always eager to immerse myself in new cultures, foods, and perspectives. When I'm not reading or writing, you can usually find me practicing yoga, wandering through a new city, or spending time outdoors, particularly at the beach. I try to bring that same sense of curiosity, mindfulness, and energy into every tutoring session.
