Cathy: Crest Hill tutor
Certified Tutor
I graduated from University of North Texas (UNT) with my Master of Science in Education, with a focus on special education and an further emphasis on Autism intervention. Additionally, I received two years of training in behavior analysis while at UNT. Since graduation, I have worked with students of all ages and abilities. I tutored children in various subjects in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area; worked as a behavior therapist with both children and adults with developmental disabilities; worked as a special education paraprofessional at the elementary level in the Dallas area; and taught Sunday School. While I tutor a broad range of subjects, I am most passionate about Reading, English/Language Arts, Social Studies/History, and social skills. I love to see a student's face light up when they suddenly make the connection on a topic with which they have struggled, developing a real understanding of the subject. Even better is when they come away with a new-found love of a previously difficult subject or recognition of their own self-worth. I am heavily influenced by both the basic principles of Applied Behavior Analysis and the firm belief that every child is capable of learning if given the opportunity and the right supports. I always tailor my lessons to the needs and abilities of the student, and I stress positive reinforcement in all my student interactions. In my spare time, I enjoy reading for both entertainment and learning, fiber crafts (especially needlepoint and crochet), storytelling, and spending time with my husband and son.

I am an avid reader and needle crafter, mostly crochet and needlepoint. My favorite books are mysteries, fantasy, or creative non-fiction on a topic I find interesting. I also love history, and in my spare time I use storytelling to teach history and preserve the memories of the past.
